Office of Children Youth & Families - Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center About the Division of Youth Services: The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment and parole. DYS is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates ten secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21, who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced, or committed. The Division also contracts with numerous private residential and non-residential service providers throughout the State. For pre-adjudicated youth, the Division is also responsible for the management and oversight of Senate Bill 91-94; a State-funded, locally administered program that provides services to youth at risk of further progressing into the juvenile justice system. In addition to residential programming, the Division administers juvenile parole services throughout the State.

This position exists to supervise a food services program in a juvenile correctional facility and to assist with the preparation of the meals for this facility. The individual in this position must supervise staff; provide quality meals to youth and staff; and to ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and standards.


**Please note: It is possible that this position may require travel, including, but not limited to floating to other DYS facilities to help with coverage, and travel to meetings, and trainings. **

Shifts will be scheduled between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and are subject to change based on the needs of the program

Specific duties include: INVENTORY MANAGEMENTInventory, forecast, requisition and acquire, inspect, reject, and store raw food and supplies for meal preparation. Sign requisitions and invoices and submit for payment.

SUPERVISION. Direct food services to provide facility food services and comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and standards. Schedule staff, approve leave requests and time sheets. Conduct employee performance plans, reviews, and evaluations and maintain documentation to support evaluations. Issue corrective actions. Interview staff and recommend to hire. Provide orientation for new employees and other training required for food services staff.

SANITATION Ensures that proper sanitation procedures are followed. Ensures that food services equipment and physical plant of kitchen are cleaned on a regular basis to keep them free of food particles, dust, bacteria. Controls times and temperatures of food to prevent food borne illness

MEAL PREPARATION. Prepares production worksheets. Ensures that menus and recipes are followed in order to comply with National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and DYS policies and procedures. When recipes changes are required, documents changes and submits to central office. Assures that food is attractive, appetizing, and of proper temperatures.

SAFETY AND SECURITYRecognizes safety hazards. Ensures that food service equipment is properly utilized. Enforces good safety practices to reduce slips, trips, falls, burns, etc. Ensures that knives and/or culinary utensils are inventoried according to facility procedures to prevent lose. Ensures that doors are kept locked to prevent escapes. Follows facility key procedures. Sees to it that chemicals are stored and used properly.

TRAINING AND MEETINGS. Attends DYS and facility meetings to maintain and increase knowledge regarding procedural changes. Attends training to increase job knowledge.

REGULATORY AND POLICY COMPLIANCE. Surveys youth to evaluate acceptance of products served. Inspects kitchen to ensure that safety and cleanliness are maintained and that temperatures for food and equipment are adequate. Prepares daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports, records, and forms for compliance with the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Donated Foods Program, Rules and Regulations Governing Food Service Establishments, and DYS policies and procedures.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT. Adjusts food and supply requisitions in order to reduce costs and utilize donated resources. Reports equipment and building malfunctions to maintenance for repair. Efficiently schedules staff to minimize comp time.

Conditions of Employment: Full Background. CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons): CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults - Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers). Must be at least 21 years old Must possess a valid U.S. drivers license Shift Work - Subject to assigned shifts, may be required to work breakfast, lunch or dinner shifts Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials - Various cleaning agents are used in the kitchen. Travel to assigned trainings and/or alternate work sites. Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the DYS Pre-service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO) and mandatory annual training in all subject areas. Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must (1) disclose that information on the application (2) provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position, (3) provide the employee number from the applicant's prior State employment.
