*About the Position:*

The Line Cook is responsible for the preparation and cooking of food items at their assigned station, following recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines established by the Executive Chef or Sous Chef. This role is essential to ensuring efficient service and a high-quality culinary experience for every guest at The Tryst.

_Reports to: Executive Chef/Food and Beverage Manager_

*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*

* Prepare ingredients and dishes in accordance with menu recipes and specifications set by the Executive Chef.
* Maintain the assigned workstation clean, organized, and fully stocked throughout the entire shift.
* Cook all food items accurately, monitoring cooking times and temperatures as directed.
* Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure a consistent and efficient workflow during service.
* Comply with all hygiene, food safety, and safe food handling standards at all times.
* Assist with the cleaning and organization of the kitchen at the end of each shift.
* Contribute to upholding the highest standards of quality, flavor, and plate presentation.
* Communicate proactively with the Sous Chef or Executive Chef regarding low stock, equipment issues, or service concerns.
* Support other stations as needed during high-volume periods to ensure seamless service.
* Participate in menu prep, mise en place, and special event setups as directed.

*QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS*

* Minimum 1 year of experience as a line cook or in a similar culinary position.
* Knowledge of basic cooking techniques and safe food handling practices.
* Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment.
* Strong ability to follow instructions precisely and work collaboratively as part of a team.
* Understanding of food safety regulations and kitchen sanitation standards (ServSafe or equivalent preferred).
* Physical stamina: role requires standing for extended periods, lifting, and working in high-heat environments.
* Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
* Must be legally authorized to work in Puerto Rico.

*Preferred:*

* Culinary school training or formal culinary certification.
* Experience in a boutique hotel, resort, or upscale restaurant kitchen.
* Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

*Physical Requirements*

* Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
* Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to *50 lbs (23 kg)*.
* Perform repetitive motions with hands, wrists, and arms, including chopping, stirring, and plating.
* Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead throughout the shift.
* Work safely with hot surfaces, sharp knives, and commercial kitchen equipment.
* Tolerate exposure to heat, steam, smoke, and varying temperatures, including walk-in coolers and freezers.
* Maintain manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for food preparation and cooking.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail.
* Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
